She meets Jaeger's gaze, her jaw set in a stubborn sort of resolve, brow creased in thought as she considers the angles of the chamber as they had been when briefly lit by the chemical light and the flash of his camera. That there is another entrance is something she's certain of - it doesn't make any sense any other way - but wherever it is, it's cleverly hidden. They'll need to--
Her thoughts, and whatever she'd been about to say, are disrupted as the chained bag dips below the lip of the pit. There's another click and whir of something within the walls, a dull grinding of moving stone, and then two doors are sliding slowly, slowly open.
The bag rustles, still too far from the edges of the pit for it to be mistaken for it brushing against some outcropping, and Yelena's stomach turns over. The bargain becomes starkly clear in that moment: whatever's in the bag, living or dead, for their freedom.
"Shit," she mutters.
This isn't a story. There's no convenient third option, no prybar in a discarded corner that might let them jam the mechanism, find a way to retrieve the bag and free whatever's inside, and still escape.
It's a good trick, if the point is to leave one's prey haunted even if they escape the trap.
