There's nothing particularly defiant about her - she seems perfectly relaxed, sprawled loose-limbed in the chilly muck, as though unaware of both her surroundings and of Lois's distress.
In her own mind, she floats in warm, clear water, cocooned in quiet that is, for once, welcoming rather than hostile.
