➥ Arrival

(cw: potential for severe disorientation/vertigo, claustrophobia, arachnophobia, body horror)

It happens in the blink of an eye. You may have been asleep. You may not have. You may have stepped through a door or turned a corner. You may have seen a flicker of something at the corner of your vision and turned to look. Or maybe you didn't.

It doesn't matter. What matters is that you find yourself somewhere entirely new and entirely unfamiliar. The arrival point is not always the same. (If you're lucky, it might be a canteen or an open office. If you're not, well... you aren't claustrophobic, are you? Or arachnophobic. These ducts do seem to be a bit cobwebby.) There is no one waiting for you but you don’t seem to be alone, either. Even in a janitor’s closet or the bathroom, you’ll find at least one person who seems to be just as out of place as you are.

If characters have arrived in a location devoid of NPCs, they may want to work together to figure out what is going on... or to avoid their 'kidnappers.' If you’ve arrived in the middle of the entry foyer or the gym, there may well be a few people who startle a bit at your arrival and try to approach (or discreetly leave the room... where are they going?). Will you cooperate or fight? Do you even understand what they're saying? You might need to find a translator, if you’re not immediately willing to follow a stranger.

After characters follow their new hosts (or are forcibly taken in) there will be a limited tour and the chance to settle in at the ADI-provided housing. (Do you enjoy living with strangers? Well. It's a new situation to navigate, anyway.)

➥ Sticks and Stones

(cw: hallucination, potential mind-control)

Weird things happen in Dogtown, everyone knows it. The Apocalypse Disruption Initiative (ADI) is not above taking advantage of that to test out the waters for its newest arrivals. They're not looking to send anyone to their death, though. That's far too much paperwork, you'd been assured with a wink from the employee who'd directed you to the park trailhead. You've been left with another person. Maybe they're a new arrival, as well, or a more seasoned 'veteran.' Either way, you're together for the next while and you've been asked to find and record any paranormal activity in the park. You have your phones and any other equipment you might have brought with you. Those who succeed in documenting anything peculiar will receive a $100 reward to be used as they see fit.

This month, there seems to be something odd afoot with the stones around the park. Instead of the questionably useful advice they offer, there is, instead, something embarrassingly or horrifically true about you carved into the stone. Trying to show your companion or gauge their reaction will net nothing; they will simply see their own truth. It's only when you admit to what's on the stone that it seems to become visible to others or any camera in your possession.

Take a picture. The least you deserve for the trouble is some money.

➥ I Will Survive

"We'll have others with you, but all of you will be out on your own for missions, so to speak," the ADI employee who had led you down to the underground training facility explained. "You'll need to have some basic skills. Even if you're not going out soon or ever… it's safer to know these things."

Basic skills, in this case, appear to mean survival and weapons training. The room you've been brought to on Floor B3 below ADI Headquarters is a massive, underground gym, and there are sections set up for various skills practice. One side of the gym is dedicated to fighting: bare-knuckles, wrestling, knives, and tasers are all out on display. There are also a few guns, but those are reserved for people who can prove they can manage the other weapons first. The other side has areas for fire-making, building a shelter, navigating without a phone, supply preparation, cooking, and basic first-aid. Through a side door, there's also a small pool where people are being taught the basics of swimming.

Any or all of these skills would be useful in a dangerous situation, and there aren't enough native ADI employees to cover training for all of them. If you show that you're proficient with something, you'll be asked to man one of the areas to assist in training others. If you're at a loss and looking lost, you will be pushed toward whatever skills practice area is physically closest to you, whether you wanted to learn anything about that or not. Best make the most of it… and try not to kill anyone or burn anything down.

Even those who have refused ADI Housing and taken themselves to Bonnie's Flophouse will find that they're welcome for this training under the strict understanding that no supernatural abilities will be used. Bonnie will have informed them of it and helped them get to ADI to ensure they learn some of the things they might need to survive... and also just to bond with the people they'll be working with for the foreseeable future.

➥ Shifting Perspective

(cw: body horror, implication of near-drowning, violence, potential for blood, gore, drowning, death)

The beaches around Gloucester are numerous and varied with reported supernatural activity at many, if not most of them. For those working with ADI, they'll receive the direction in a mass email from Reyes Amador, the assistant to the Head of ADI. For those not technically working at ADI, Bonnie will provide the same information.

All,

We have received reports of strange noises and sightings at Coffin Beach. Please take at least one other person and investigate. A $300 bonus will be offered to those who bring back evidence of the source of these reports.

Take Care of Yourselves,
Reyes

Those who head to Coffin Beach will find that the sand beneath their feet squeaks softly with each step, like the faint sound of a poorly-maintained hinge protesting their movements. It makes stealth especially difficult, and those who wish to maintain their cover would do well to stay farther up into the vegetation and off the beach, itself. There aren't any houses out this way, just coastal marshes, the beach, and some higher ground with low-growing shrubs, tall grasses, and thin trees.

For the patient, those who wait for night to fall, they will be rewarded when they hear the sound of someone crying. Searching the beach, they will be able to spot a young person who appears to have washed up in a kayak on the beach. The young person is visibly injured in some way with blood coming out of them. Those who approach cautiously may get the sense that there is something not quite right about this person. Man or woman, their face is too long, their angles too sharp.

There is something wrong. It's not the injury.

There is something very wrong with what this person is.

They will not respond to any calls or move from where they lie, half-submerged in the surf. Anyone who approaches within a few feet will discover they're not nearly as helpless as they seem to be, though. The person will burst from the water with a powerful thrust, attempting to tackle anyone nearby and bite them. The person's face transforms into a long, fanged maw, trying to rip and tear and drag their prey into the ocean with them, away from any safety.

➥ Mod Notes
  • ARRIVAL: Two people will always arrive in the same general location together. Arrivals occur throughout the early month, not all on the same day or in the same place. Arrivals are not naturally fluent in English/other languages immediately upon arrival. Characters may attempt to evade capture, but they will eventually be snagged before they can leave the building. Please refer to the Arrival page for details regarding the arrival and onboarding process.

  • STICKS AND STONES: If so desired, to facilitate CR, characters may feel themselves compelled to ask about the stones when they see their truth written on it. Resisting the compulsion will become more and more difficult as time goes on.

  • I WILL SURVIVE: Characters may be students or trainers in this scenario. They might be able to get away with small displays of supernatural abilities if they want to risk it and if they find themselves with the necessary reserves of power. Anything significant will have them immediately removed and asked not to return to ADI for a few days.

  • SHIFTING PERSPECTIVE: Characters may fight off, capture, or kill the creature. If they successfully capture it and bring it back to ADI (or call for someone to come and do that for them), they will receive a significant monetary bonus beyond the promised $300 for their work. If characters successfully kill and document the kill, they will also receive the bonus and instructions to push the body out to sea. If a character is taken by the creature, they will be killed. Please bear in mind that if a character dies in the TDM prompt, they are dead. A different version who doesn't have TDM memories may be apped in their place.

Goro Akechi | Persona 5 Royal

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-06 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc: spoilers for Persona 5 Royal!]

A. Arrival
[Goro Akechi wakes up.

That, in and of itself, is surprising enough. When the world had faded to white and shattered around him, he'd fully expected that to be the end. For a moment, as he comes back to himself, the he considers the idea that he might be in his own, fully-deserved, hell.

He just hadn't expected hell to smell so strongly like cleaning products.

And be so annoyingly cramped. In the darkness, he can't tell what's jabbing into his side -- if he didn't know better, he'd think it was a broom handle. One breath, two, then he shifts experimentally, bending his knees, his elbows, cautiously rotating his neck. He still can't see anything, but he's alive. Or at the very least, he's not fully dead, and that's about to become someone else's problem.

With a wordless growl, he lunges forward what little he can, scattering what sounds like cleaning supplies here and there, banging gloved fists against every wall in an attempt to find the door and break it fucking open. If you're outside, it just sounds something like a wild animal trying its best to escape.

If you're inside, well. Watch your head.]
B. Sticks and Stones
"Find and record paranormal activity," is it?

[A young man in a sweater vest and khakis stands at the entrance of the park, unfolding the map and glancing over it with evident boredom and thinly-veiled annoyance. A beat, then he folds the map and turns toward his partner, shaking his head with a sigh.]

Well, let's get this little "orientation" over with, shall we?
C. I Will Survive
Hm.

[For a boy who looks to be barely out of high school, Akechi seems more than comfortable with the weapons on display. With an expert's precision, he checks to see if the pistol he'd chosen is loaded, weighs it in his hand, ensures the safety is on. He slips protective earmuffs over his ear and sights down the barrel downrange toward the target.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Two shots to the chest, one to the heart. His eyes remain cold and dispassionate as he surveys his handiwork with a soft hum and removes his earmuffs.]

If nothing else, they certainly seem well-prepared. I wonder how seriously the police here take firearms licenses?
D. Wildcard!
[None of these work for you? Want to do something else? Use this prompt here! Akechi can generally be found anywhere exploring both the building and the town, generally trying to familiarize himself with everything. He'll accompany someone for shifting perspectives as well!]

honey i'm home - arrival

[personal profile] forethinking 2021-07-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
(Akechi has come to his senses much quicker than Ren has, honestly speaking. He swears he's even hearing a faint ringing in his ears, the world spinning and his pressure dropping from his arrival and he swears his knees might as well give in and have him fall onto the floor.

Except-- Before he even has time to process this abrupt welcoming, there's already a godforsaken noise of someone making chaos out of despair, and he follows the sound to offer a gentle hand to the forearm, or hopefully the forearm, as he gathers all his bearings to finally speak.)

Don't worry. We'll find the door.

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, Ren can certainly try for his arm. In all the ruckus of trying to scramble his way free, Akechi doesn't quite hear the voice for what it is. Instead, he feels trapped, not alone, VULNERABLE and his head snaps back in that heady mixture of intent and instinct that accompanies a fight for his life. With any luck, he'll headbutt his attacker. With more luck, he might break its nose.

But he's never been lucky.]

Get your hands off me!
forethinking: (Default)

[personal profile] forethinking 2021-07-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
(BANG echoes in his already sore brain from the impact on his forehead, and Ren sends a hand to the assaulted spot as he takes a step back, crashing accidentally on the shelf and sending more plastic containers flying onto the floor. Luckily, because he is not Akechi, none fall on his head.

... But he recognizes the voice. He's heard it unhinged rather often by now.)

Akechi? It's Ren.
simulatio: (qrtHfmK)

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ren?

[It's as much snarl as statement as Akechi goes still. The only sound is the residual echoes from full containers and empty buckets clattering around in his attempts to break free, and his own ragged breathing. It doesn't help him feel any less trapped, but the sound of Ren's voice is some small comfort, to be sure, if only as a source of familiarity.

He bites back another growl and, more carefully this time, starts trying to feel around the walls. Focus. Think. Think.]

A Palace shouldn't collapse physically like this, so where the fuck are we?
forethinking: (j2)

[personal profile] forethinking 2021-07-06 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know.

(Don't assume he knows shit about shit. Didn't he get into their whole ordeal blind as well? As per usual, Ren just goes, and that's what he's planning to do. After all, losing it would prove of little advantage, so he just joins the other in his quest to feel the walls until he finds an edge.

Bingo.

He doesn't even have time to dwell on the fact that Akechi wasn't supposed to be here. He might have fought alongside him when the time came, but they fixed their reality. Akechi wasn't supposed to be alive, and it tore him inside the longer he thought about it, but this wasn't the time to discuss these things. They needed a way out first and miraculously, his hand brushes against the doorknob.)

Found it. Ready?
simulatio: (282)

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-06 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ready.

[He follows the sound of Ren's voice, taking those few steps closer until his shoulder brushes the other boy's for a sense of his own location. Whether or not this is the Metaverse, whether or not their guns even work, he has no intent of laying down to die. Again.

The door might be locked, but now that he knows where it is, Akechi braces a hand on Ren's shoulder for balance and lashes out with a savage kick. Once, twice, and the door bursts open, bouncing off the wall and nearly slamming back shut in their faces from the impact.

Rather anti-climatically, there's no one on the other side, no ready target for Akechi to take out his anger on and expel the residual fear thrumming through his veins. Instead, to all appearances, it looks like a normal office building. No bright, sterile white lights, no inky-black tendrils of data. No rapturous, false Garden of Eden.

Just an office building.]

Come on, [he says shortly, tugging on one of his gloves to tighten it and striding forward with a confidence he doesn't truly feel.] We aren't going to learn anything by standing here.

[Just two dudes forced from their worlds(?) to ward off an endless Apocalypse. Now with a poorly executed field day. He shrugs.]

I'm kind of looking forward to it.

[All things considered, there is no way getting their feet wet will be on their terms. Whatever test this is, there's an obvious something they won't be privy to. And Tim? He thinks he's game.]

It beats a PowerPoint presentation. [The... other guy has the map. Tim nods to the park, and steals the first steps forward.] I'm Tim, by the way.
simulatio: (283)

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-06 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Akechi, [he responds with a polite nod. If Tim is only giving one name, Akechi sees no reason to bother giving his first name. They may be partners at the moment, but they're still strangers. As far as he's concerned, only one person needs to call him by his first name in this strange place.]

With the lack of details we were given, I rather hope this is a case of "we'll know it when we see it." I should hate to waste the dear detectives' time with pictures of things we simply think are paranormal in our own limited experience.

[He says it in a tone that's almost regretful, as if he genuinely means it, but there's a hint of an edge to his smile, the kind that implies that if this turns out to be a waste of time, he's not above wasting their employers' time in return.]

Unless, ah, forgive me... this is an area of expertise for you?
ployboy: <user name=wittystairs site=livejournal.com> (I hear you call my name)

[personal profile] ployboy 2021-07-07 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a nod of acknowledgment on this end, and Tim figures they're doing alright for themselves. Three minutes into the assignment. Never let it be said he isn't an optimist at heart, though he snorts at Akechi's words before really confirming if they were serious or not.

Or just so-so.

A glance at the guy and his smile tells him that was an okay thing to do, and then Tim is back to scanning the park trail for... what? A unicorn?

(Any sign of tampering of signs? Trail cams? Wires running through the foliage underfoot? The bird calls overhead all sound so... normal. And Akechi hasn't made sudden movements.)]

I was born and raised in Gotham, if that counts. [Ah, the American-centric way of life. A decent enough cover for now.]

But the weirdest thing that happened recently was coming to the ADI via server room, so does that mean I take a picture of myself or of something that represents this entire exercise?

[This clearly isn't a classic hostage situation anymore; their time here is almost entirely voluntary. There are expectations for them, sure (and Tim raises his issued phone to line the camera app to his trail buddy) but how real or phony the threats are--] Say cheese? [Hey, he's polite enough to ask.]
simulatio: (mm01)

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-08 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs politely as if self-conscious.]

I spent my entire life in Tokyo, so forgive me if I'm not familiar with, ah, "Gotham." Is that a city in the United States?

[A blink, then a snort of his own as Tim raises his phone as if to take a picture. He hasn't been out of the media spotlight so long as to have forgotten how to pose, and almost by habit, he brings his thumb and forefinger to his chin in the cheesy "Detective Prince" pose that his fans had found so endearing. A slight tilt of his head and a wink to cap it off, then he rolls his eyes.]

Unfortunately, I must agree with you, [he lies as he drops the pose, smile fading to something more comfortably neutral. Honestly, he almost wishes he could say waking up in a janitor's closet and then being told he was being recruited to save the world was the weirdest thing that had happened to him of late.] Perhaps we should leave ADI some suggestions, in case they decide to find any other hapless souls like us wandering about.

[His lips twist into another smile as they walk, less overly-bright and cheery than the one he'd posed with.]

Though I have to say, if a photo of me does turn out to be worth a hundred dollars, I'd appreciate it if you could split it with me. I'll even sign it for you.
ployboy: <user name=eyecons> (You didn't know?)

[personal profile] ployboy 2021-07-08 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods. Yeah, the grand ol' US-of-A. And he knows Tokyo. So that's enough of a gosh darn relief in and of itself that he doesn't press the issue of how Akechi hasn't heard of G-City. Tim's pretty sure they've got a rep. Despite it, his eyes light up in that unmistakable way that promises shenanigans (in some distant, far-off way, he can recognize he's having fun. Jesus.) and he snaps the pic, quickly turning the screen so Akechi can see.] How about I give you the fifty if you don't sign it.

[He doesn't pocket the phone, he just swipes back to the home screen. The hike is beginning to irk him in a way he didn't know was possible. It's the fact that this is a test. Tim doesn't-- he doesn't love those things. He lets the small frustration bleed into his voice.]

I've been here a few days. ADI says they've been having guests like us for a while now. If their material still sucks, then I don't know what we can do for 'em.

[There's boulders up ahead. Tim gestures dismissively to them, because literally everything he knows about this town helps nothing.] Those things? The locals say some weirdo millionaire carved them up back in the 1930s with little pep talks.
simulatio: (283)

[personal profile] simulatio 2021-07-09 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah. If you insist.

[He snorts again with amusement and shakes his head. While it's true that once upon a time, he was something of a celebrity, it's not something he cares about anymore. Necessary at the time, yes, but absolutely useless now.

He does perk up somewhat at the sight of the boulders, though. He's not dressed for bouldering, but, well. Perhaps there are some good places within these woods to practice, though none of them seem quite imposing enough at a glance for a good workout.]

I suppose wasting money on nonsense isn't limited solely to Japanese businessmen, then, [he remarks, moving a little more quickly in the interest of scouting to see if any of them are worth the climb. As his eyes fall upon the first stone, though, he pauses, quirking an eyebrow.]

...You said they were meant to be "pep talks?"

[UNWANTED CHILD emblazoned on one of the larger stones is certainly difficult to read as motivational, save perhaps out of spite.]

She deliberately ignores the tropes about that kind of thing that whisper in her mind.]

Wow, you must have worked really hard to get that good! [Even if the skill is something as potentially alarming as a teenager who's really good with guns, it's condescending to attribute to blind talent what is better called hard work. [Of all the things he'd expect to receive a compliment for, his skill with guns certainly isn't one of them. Sure, he had been showing off, but it had been more intended toward these detectives that seem so keen to use them for their own purposes, rather than any of their other hapless captives. Because that's what they are, aren't they, when it truly comes down to it? Captives? A leash is no less a leash for its length.]

Ah... thank you.

[His gaze sweeps over her as he takes in the stranger. Young, female, approximately his own age. He smiles like he would for a magazine and flicks his thumb to engage the safety before turning to face her with a gesture to the earmuffs now dangling around his neck.]

If you intend to spend time on the shooting range, I recommend some kind of ear protection. I can help you, if you like, Miss...?

[Oh, this boy has a very sweet smile. She's not sure what she was expecting out of someone who was so good with a weapon, but he seems quite soft-spoken, too. She gives him her best smile in return.] Monika. Since the people who work here seem really insistent on us being able to protect ourselves, I thought something long range would be a good idea, but it must be pretty obvious I've never been around real guns before.

[Monika's build looks reasonably athletic for your average high schooler, but yeah, she's obviously not built to be beating anyone up any time soon.]

If you have tips, I'd love to listen! And I should ask your name, too.

Ah, forgive me. Where are my manners? My name is Akechi.

[He inclines his head, smile fading to something that only just tugs at his lips as he glances down to the gun in his hand and weighs it. It's a heavier model than he's used to, designed to deal damage over being easily concealed, and not something he would give a beginner.]

I'd certainly be happy to walk you through the basics, [he says with another, smaller smile, tilting his head and taking a few steps back toward the rack of firearms.] It isn't as easy as movies and video games might lead you to believe, but nor is it overly difficult, either. Any idiot can pick up a gun off the street and figure out how to use it: the key is becoming more of a danger to those who wish to hurt you, rather than to yourself.

[Or to him. These so-called apocalypse-preventers seem rather keen on separating them into pairs. He hasn't made it this far just to be shot in the back by an inexperienced fool trying their best. This isn't the Metaverse, after all.

He selects a smaller pistol and pulls the magazine out of it, offering the empty pistol to Monika to hold.]

How does that feel?

[Monika takes the gun carefully, like she's holding--well, a gun. She saw him take the bullets out but there's still a strange, forbidden feeling to the whole thing. Earlier, looking at the brass knuckles and the knives, she'd thought it would be best if she stood back; this is the result in a place that would even try to teach her how to use brass knuckles in the first place, isn't it? Stand back away from the action. Pull the trigger. Click delete. It probably shouldn't feel a little exciting.

Monika is, if nothing else, careful to keep the gun pointed away from anyone. She seems to have some innate sense for the dangers of weapons. (Maybe she hasn't seen anyone use a gun for real, but other weapons--) (that wasn't real) (it was real enough)

She keeps her poise, mostly. There's nervousness around the edges, but she's trying hard to keep the presentation of normal girl and balance it with helpful even as she tries to figure out where that balance even lies. Akechi seems nice and he's offering to help her out; she'd like to make a good impression.]

It's not as heavy as I thought. [But it's not as if it's light, either. Maybe it's more that she thinks it should feel heavier?] It's a little scary, but I think any weapon would be like that.

[Akechi's "partner" may stand out a little with his particular fashion sense, and he doesn't particularly seem like he wants to be here either. Which he doesn't, especially not with a partner. Couldn't he have just handled this this alone...?]

We're expected to simply wander around and look for anything "paranormal?" I don't see how we'll learn anything useful with a vague mission like that.

[This guy absolutely stands out, and to be honest? Akechi's kind of embarrassed to be seen standing next to him. If they were in the Metaverse, fine, whatever, he'd barely bat an eye. But in the real world?

Well, he certainly does stand out next to Akechi's sweatervest and khakis.

He bites back an observation about other's outfit, a hopefully-cutting quip about how he could likely just take a photograph of him and send it along, and instead just shakes his head.]

Well, I suppose we'll know it when we see it. Or we won't, and this walk through the forest will be a colossal waste of time. In which case, I say we take as many photographs as this phone's memory will hold, and politely ask our employers to go through each one, one by one, just in case we missed something.

[A smile, and he starts off along the trail.]

May I ask your name?

[Fortunately(?) Faust is oblivious to Akechi's judgment, not that he particularly cares what some random human kid thinks of his clothes. At least, he's going with the assumption he's human until proven otherwise.]

[He will keep pace with Akechi as he frowns down at his own phone. He's had at least some time to try and familiarize himself with how to use it, but it's still alien technology to him. And he has to take at least one glove off to properly use it, which seems like an annoying oversight for such a complex device.]

How many "photographs" do you suppose that would be?

[It's a serious question, he has no idea. But as for Akechi's question,]

Faust. And yours?

Oh, thousands.

[He smiles pleasantly, as if the prospect of taking thousands of photographs of the wilderness and subjecting their employers to scouring each and every one is perfectly feasible and normal. After all, the phones' cameras likely have a burst mode.

Get modern gloves, Faust.]

Ah, where are my manners? My name is Akechi.

[He inclines his head politely as they continue up the path. A strange name, a strange outfit, but certainly nothing to indicate that this man is a threat, as of yet.]

May I ask, ah, where you're from? Your outfit is quite unique.

[Thousands... sadly he doesn't know anything about burst mode, so,]

I'd say that would be a fitting exchange, if taking that many photographs wouldn't amount to even more wasted time.

[He may be going along with what these people have asked of him, but that doesn't mean he has to be blindly obedient, especially if they're shoving trivial tasks on him.]

[He gives Akechi a sidelong glance at that question. He gets the sense he's not from his world, considering his knowledge of how the phones work, so this feels like a pointless question. Still, it would be good to know for sure.]

Eastern Country, though that has little to do with my outfit.

Gil watches the kid shoot, eyebrows going up at those perfect little holes in the paper. Going up a little more at the chilly look on the boy's face. He slowly pulls off his own earmuffs, soon enough to hear the comment and the question.

"I'm thinking the apocalypse probably trumps legality where these people are concerned. You're a good shot."

[Akechi's eyes dart sideways at the sound of an adult's voice answering him, and even now, after everything, there's still a satisfied rush at the idea of someone feasibly older and more experienced than he is praising him. Fuck, but he hates that part of himself.

But, well, it would be a lie to say he hadn't been practicing in the hopes of being noticed, being acknowledged for something he's genuinely good at, so he doesn't bother to temper the pride in his smile as he inclines his head at the compliment. Someone older than he is, complimenting his ability to shoot: he doesn't bother to widen his eyes with the kind of boyish glee he might have allowed in the past, the kind meant to project innocence and naiveite, but instead just a calm confidence.]

Yes, the apocalypse... ADI must have quite the relationship with the local police to get away with an operation like this.

[He gestures with his free hand to the veritable armory around them, both eyebrows quirking up with an amusement that's just for him. He knows better than most just how much police can be willing to turn a blind eye to something, as long as they're compensated properly. Or threatened enough.]

Still, it would be quite rude not to take advantage of the weaponry they've seen fit to equip us with, no? As long as they're willing to pay for the ammunition, I see no reason not to keep our skills sharp.
