Housing Meme
HOUSING MEME

How It Works
By now everyone's had time to move into their apartments or rooms, right? Maybe your character is old hat at the roommate experience or maybe this is their first time--either way, unless you're one of those lucky flophouse friends who gets their own room, you're stuck sharing. Even if you're not, you've at least got a whole room to decorate, right? So! This is a meme for people to figure that out, on your own or with your roommates or both! This is also the place to discuss your character's housing routines--are they an early riser? Stay up late? Are they a neat freak or is their mess threatening to come to life? Do they even know what indoor plumbing is?
Here's how it works! Find your apartment/room or, if it's not yet made, make a comment for it using one of the below forms. Then you can reply to that comment with your character and fill out the helpful character-related form! Then talk to your roomies/other curious people and figure out how rooming is going/not going! Have fun!

Bedroom Description: Kept very neat and tidy. Not too decorated yet. Main color is white, with pops of color in pillows and the like. Emerald green is her favorite color and it shows in the accents of her room. She's put her desk by the window and that's the messiest area of her room; she usually has papers and things strewn across it. She has some beginner coding books that live by her desk too.
Bathroom Description: Not particularly decorated yet, but kept very clean. She has a small collection of makeup and various skin care products that either live in here or end up lying around in here.
Common Area Additions: Monika has put some plants on the balcony and she cannot be stopped. They're not expensive or anything. She has also put some hanging plants in the living room and similarly cannot be stopped. Plants are good! Monika has also made sure there's a coffee pot in the kitchen. She needs that it's important.
Common Area Ideas: What does the kitchen even look like, Mercy is from ye olden fantasy days, Akechi can't cook, Monika can cook but she's an ordinary 18-year-old (at least when it comes to this)... I am imagining a very eclectic mix of appliances here.
Anything Else: Monika is a vegetarian, but she's a vegetarian for environmental reasons, so she doesn't mind at all if Mercy or Akechi eat meat. Still, if Monika is cooking for Mercy or Akechi and they don't make a specific request, they're getting something vegetarian.
During the For Sport event, Monika has been coming home before dark and hanging around the lobby until 11pm curfew to see if everyone makes it in okay given that whole kidnapping thing.

Will she play piano in the common room... Akechi would actually enjoy listening to her play! Especially if it's more on the jazz or classical side of things.

He'll usually come back to the apartment with coffee and breakfast. He wouldn't think to bring any back for his roommates unless they commented on it though, and after he showers he's absolutely blowdrying his hair by 7am, sorry everyone. If one of his roommates asked him to maybe not blowdry his hair so early in the morning, he'd do it, but he wouldn't be happy about it. Blow-drying is essential for proper styling!!
He'll only do dishes if a) they're his, or b) someone (not Ren) cooked a meal and shared with him. If dirty dishes are left in the sink by someone else, he won't touch them.
In his free time around the apartment, he'll usually be reading in the common area, either a book of Western philosophical essays (in Japanese) or history/guidebooks of the area (English). He won't spend a lot of time in the common area unless like, one of his roommates remarks on his absence.
Bedroom Description: Doesn't have any extra decorations, hasn't bothered to buy any extra furniture, puts away his clothing neatly. There is, uh, a knife under his pillow, though, and spare ammunition for a pistol on his bedside table. His laptop is plugged into the wall nearby, but it isn't connected to the wifi and doesn't even have games on it, so what's the point.
Bathroom Description: everything that can be put away neatly has been put away neatly, but his sink does have a rather impressive array of skin and haircare products on it. Not all of them look brand new; some of them are the small travel-sized ones he carried in his briefcase, and again as he earns more money, he'll buy more products.
Common Area Additions: He'll leave his books in the common area in case anyone else wants to read them! Eventually he'll start adding some English-language books on philosophy around, since he's absolutely going to be interested in reading the translations to compare with his own Japanese copy, because he's a nerd. And if he leaves them out and someone happens to read them, then that's something they can talk about?? Without him having to ask them!! This is how to find common interests, he thinks.
Common Area Ideas: As long as it doesn't clutter the walking spaces, Akechi doesn't care about the decorations! He might suggest a chessboard eventually, if his roommates express an interest in spending time together. He wants to have friends his age, but simply doesn't know how and it's too late to ask :(
Continues to edit as I think of more things sorry, but he would be mindful of cleaning the common area if no one else does it first! He likes to live in a clean space. Not going so far as to pick up anyone else's trash (he'll point it out, very politely, but not do anything about it himself), but he won't mind vacuuming or dusting about once a week or so.
Anything Else: He won't go out of his way to miss curfew, but during the For Sport event, he's generally too busy at night to bother with a normal human sleep schedule. He also just doesn't sleep very much in general; on a normal day, he's generally in bed/asleep by 11pm or midnight.
He'll also be inviting Ren Amamiya over fairly often, and would introduce him to the others as "someone I worked together with in the past." If they're not talking in Akechi's room, Ren's probably cooking for them! And by them I mean "the whole apartment" because Ren is a good boy and Akechi is not above taking advantage of his generosity to score some social

-Monika will absolutely at least skim through books that are left out; literature is more her thing of course but she has some interest in philosophy... she might apologize for touching his stuff if she gets caught though since she would not realize this is all part of his Sneaky Friendship Plan
-even if Akechi calls Ren "someone I worked together with" she is mentally categorizing Akechi and Ren as friends and will eat his food whenever it's vegetarian... But she will also help clean up since Ren did cook for them and everything...
-and also she will regularly save an extra bowl of curry which she will find a way to get to Sayori even if things are extremely awkward between them right now (Sayori's right next door, Monika will figure something out)

Bedroom Description: Like most of her life, Mercy's bedroom is clean, but she doesn't always put things back where they should be. She leaves books here and there and sometimes doesn't make her bed. She's saving her money for a sewing machine, so she hasn't done much to decorate, as of yet.
Bathroom Description: Again, not much decoration as she's saving her money. She was told she could get a magical sewing machine and make clothes that way, so it's just the basic of what was originally provided to them
Common Area Additions: The only major purchase Mercy has made with her money so far is several jars of dried herbs. She's never seen so much in one place! They must have novitiates out working everywhere to get this sort of thing.
Common Area Ideas: One day, when she has her sewing machine, Mercy will turn her attention to plants and try to build up a little garden out on the balcony. She loves growing things and the concept of just going out and buying something literally any time you want is a foreign one. She will feel more secure making her own things.
Anything Else: Mercy is mostly vegetarian by habit. Meat is expensive or a lot of effort to go and hunt yourself. She likes it well enough, but most of her menu items will involve vegetables and eggs. When she finally acquires a sewing machine, she will absolutely try to make clothes for both Monika and Akechi.
Mercy is a very social person, as well. She'll be spending most of her time out of her bedroom when in the apartment. She will talk to anyone who comes into the apartment and try to engage them in conversations.
After the For Sport event, she's going to be limping for a while and wind up spending more time inside than she'd like to. Monika and Akechi may also have to suffer hearing her screaming in the middle of the night on occasion as she wakes from a nightmare. If someone would be interested, she might even try to sneak into one of her roommates rooms to sleep in their bed for comfort.

(The reason? Look, these rich bastards... Besides, she knows not only how to clip coupons, but how to take one rotisserie chicken and make three or four different meals out of it. The carcass goes for stock, and the breast meat for tacos, etc.)
As noted on Plurk, there are days when Meredith comes home, drops onto the couch and doesn't move from there at all until bed.
Bedroom Description: Tidy. Meredith doesn't need much stuff beyond her clothes, and she's not sleeping under the covers of her bed right now (luckily it's warm enough for the moment).
Bathroom Description: Medicine cabinet is stocked--including prescription painkillers. Makeup covers the counter. The hair-dryer can be heard every morning. Occasionally bags of LUSH products go in and never come out.
Common Area Additions: A couple of houseplants, netflix for the TV.
Common Area Ideas: Nothing too fancy or complicated.
Anything Else: Since being sealed, Meredith is Not Sleeping Well. Also, she came home the other day with a seal stuffed animal. No reason, of course.
(I'm kind of planning to do this with every major Thing Meredith is involved in. Plushies make everything better.)

There's still nights (it's always nights) where he'd rather burn time at the small on-site building gym than sleep but he's mindful of the other residents when he clambers back into B-1. He's a night owl, and chances are there's a small light or soft shuffling going on from inside his room at ungodly hours. He has bouts of insomnia, but otherwise isn't a significantly light sleeper.
He gives off the energy of a guy who is equal parts feeling claustrophobic about such a reduced space and someone who's so damn used to that dorm life.
Tim won't necessarily think to volunteer himself for chores, but he won't like to be seen as a total slacker either. He'll just-- occasionally need a nudge, when he isn't KO'd in the middle of the afternoon, sitting at the kitchen table.
Bedroom Description: Locked. There's (tiny, harmless) booby traps. Think a small wedge of paper just under a hinge on the door, that will flutter to the floor if anyone thinks to open it as a sign of them having come inside. Things like that.
The floor itself is uhhhprobably not the safest to trudge through blind; nothing consciously placed to trip anybody up, but Tim tends to not care about keeping his bedroom clean. Clothes, scrap papers, whatever miscellaneous electronics and wires he manages to eventually hoard. All on the floor. The bed's undone. The walls are bare. There's a soda or energy drink can on a lone desk, and it's been there forever at this point. There's a fedora on the desk. It's Meredith's fault.
Some of those scattered papers have names and descriptions of the people he's met or observed milling around ADI. Newspaper clippings. Internet print-outs of ghost stories and haunted sightings of Gloucester, MA and surrounding areas. Don't step on the box cutter, please.
Bathroom Description: Rejoice- it's actually neat. Not super tidy, because that would be blasphemous, but just not... a mess, either. All supplies are middle-of-the-road quality. There's a stocked first aid kit with gratuitous disinfectant and enough surgical thread for heavy stitching.
Common Area Additions: .....an old, empty can of soda or energy drink that he swears he'll get around to throwing away but hasn't, yet?
Common Area Ideas: Rig motion activated sensors to warn them of Malcolm boy's sleep wandering, on the odd chance all other occupants are actually asleep and look he doesn't want anybody to have any accidents if it can be preventable okay.
Just get some bio-metrics for their door so it's not a simple lock-and-key entry system.
How about some security cameras for--
A telescope for the balcony would be cool, right?
Anything Else: Most of his time in B-1 is spent inside his room doing god-knows-what. He can easily be recruited for help with ??? stuff ?? just expect him to be relatively useless for anything domestic. He's got his days where he'll be testy, and temperamental. Overall, he's stuck with concern for the Grown-Ups, just because that's who he is, but he'll be-- Awkward. about it. Small things like "please" or "thank you" might skip his mind some days. He tries to be good. He might skip a shower some days and hide behind dry shampoo. Sorry about the depression.

Bedroom Description: Malcolm's bedroom is tidy and clean. He doesn't own much here yet, so it's very generic. He can't afford the things he would normally collect. Like antique weapons. The only really odd thing is the headboard restraints on the bed; he straps himself in when he sleeps. But they're not the custom rig he has at home and he's even broken that so... accidents could happen.
Bathroom Description: Also tidy and organized but with a lot of organic personal products in relaxing scents.
Common Area Additions: His medication sits on the kitchen counter. He bought a french press for coffee that is also in the kitchen and anyone is welcome to use. He's stocked the cupboards with cheap teabags and coffee grounds.
Common Area Ideas: He's going to save up for a nice stereo. He likes music in the morning when he's exercising.
Anything Else: Malcolm's cPTSD presents in generalized anxiety disorder, depression, night terrors and occasional psychoses that usually manifest as hallucinations of his father, so there will be times when someone finds him talking to (arguing with) nothing. Once he gets to know his roommates a bit, he might tell them why he's Like This.

Regardless, she does her best for force herself to be awake at 6am to start the morning, an old habit of her old lifestyle that she hasn't left behind except for when she physically can't make it, which is normally really nerve-wracking for her. She'll take a shower and go on an hour long walk to just explore the surrounding city. Sometimes she'll get coffee, sometimes she'll get pastries. If someone asks her to bring something back for them, she will.
From there she goes to work, comes home, reads books in the common room and goes on the internet with the goal of figuring this world out further. She'll slip out at night every now and again to go to god knows where whenever she's feeling too trapped but she'll almost always return by 6am looking spotless and proper.
Bedroom Description: Aelwyn keeps her room incredibly neat! She has a lot of things that she's trying to gather, particularly books and spell ingredients and the kit necessary to design and put spells into action, but she likes to keep them orderly on her desk.
It's neat but not very decorated, the most she's got is one potted plant in the form of a cactus flower. She has lovingly called it Everpetal. She has also taken to keeping several guns in her room, some in plain sight and some more hidden. Just in case.
Bathroom Description: Aelwyn's bathroom is similarly very tidy, the only thing of note is that she has a lot of various maybe shoplifted perfumes, hair products and painkillers for headaches and hangovers.
Common Room Ideas: Aelwyn is not used to decorating or having much of a say in this, so her largest suggestion is just a communual movie and bookshelf. She hasn't quite discovered video games yet, give her time.
Anything Else: She will not cook anything that isn't frozen or cereal. Because she refuses to do it without magic and says that if they want her to cook then they have to let her rely on her powers and hurtle fully into madness. She'll also find cleaning really frustrating because she's so used to doing it with a quick cantrip and then it's done, but she's more willing to get her hands dirty for that than for food.

He's not opposed to having breakfast or dinner with the roommates, but for lunch he'll be at the ADI HQ. He generally spends most of his time over there. Free time, what is that? He hasn't figured it out yet.
Bedroom Description: Literally exactly as it came... no personal items, no nothing. Maybe there is a rose on his bedside table, if Angelo decides to put one there.
Bathroom Description: Likewise completely unaltered and clean. There is hair product that Angelo got for him.
Common Area Additions: ......... none, sorry, he doesn't DO personal things, everyone else can go wild though.
Anything Else: He might want to establish a little household budget jar that they can use to buy daily necessities if the need arises. This is his one attempt at being a normal person, please appreciate it.
He's also okay with doing the cooking from time to time but like... he has not learned how to cook. It'll be a very 'trying his hardest by the recipe' simple dishes kind of deal.

- checking on captain
- checking on other roommate to see if she's there
- cleaning, showering, cleaning, tea
- captain
- other things (taking a walk, learning things even if he hates that, sightseeing, training, brooding)
Bedroom Description: very clean! perfect hospital corners on his bed! so clean you'd think he was never there.
Bathroom Description: very clean! smells nice!!!
Common Area Additions: probably things like tea, sweets, fruit, flowers to brighten up the room.
Common Area Ideas: tbh if he can find the plants, a mini area for herbs that can be dried for tea .... as for the bookshelf, maybe something like cookbooks and stuff
Anything Else: he knows how to cook but no special requests, this is shit he picked up from living off the streets. also if you leave a mess anywhere he'll get really annoyed about it!!!! malewife supreme here.

Bedroom Description: Completely standard, except that the blankets from the bed have been pulled off and onto the floor, folded neatly in a pile during the day with the pillow on top. Apparently this is where he sleeps.
Bathroom Description: No changes at all. He doesn't take showers, though, he takes baths, and so tends to take a little longer.
Common Area Additions: None. You really wouldn't know he was there.
Common Area Ideas: Don't ask the murder machine to decorate. Though if anyone brings in plants and shows him how to water them, he will be on top of that even if you forget.
Anything Else: He tends to kinda just... lurk. If anyone else is home and not behind their bedroom door, he's always positioned somewhere where he can see them. He'll be drawn into conversation if you try, but he mostly won't try. If he's in his own room, the door is firmly locked, with a piece of furniture pushed in front of it. He's always got at least one gun and two knives on him, if you know where to look.

Bedroom Description: It is mostly kept the same but she is adding little touches such as green curtains, and as time allows, she's trying to make it her own personal space but without clutter.
Bathroom Description: Tidy and organized. There's a place for everything and everything is kept in its place. Kate has her morning and evening routine down pat. Makeup is kept in its own bag. Shower products are organized by daily use. It's a good thing that they all have their own private bathroom because she's a wee bit territorial about her personal spaces.
Common Area Additions: Two snake plants in the living room area because the space desperately needs it. Plus an aloe plant in the kitchen.
Common Area Ideas: Maybe some books, a throw pillow, nothing too fancy because she doesn't like clutter.
Anything Else: She likes everything just so and can't abide mess. Don't mess with her cooking or her baking. Some might call her an unpleasant word about it.

FLOPHOUSE: Floor 2, Room 5
He may not have any roommates, but this could be relevant for others in the flophouse, particularly those on the same floor as him!
If he's around and awake, he's more likely to be in the common room than his bedroom, there's a 50/50 chance he's intoxicated, and he'll either be super chatty and outgoing, or really withdrawn and zoning out to music on his headphones. But if he's in one of his sunny, cheerful moods, he will 100% annoy fellow flophouse residents with incessant chatter, questions about life after 1995, singing and/or dancing (SING AND/OR DANCE WITH HIM), wanting to play games (board, drinking, cards, or otherwise), and so on.
Also, once he gets a guitar (which I assume will be soon, since it's his #1 priority), he'll be playing it a lot. I'm sorry. But at least he's really skilled at it, so it's not just a bunch of noise!
Room Description: Jeff isn't the tidiest person, so there's probably clothes strewn around on the floor and on the bottom bunk. He's never had a bunk bed before, so you better believe he claimed the top bunk just for the novelty of it. He hasn't made any real effort to decorate the room, but he probably has started bringing home any odd knick knacks and kitschy or interesting nonsense he finds around town. He may have put a few plants on the windowsill, but he's incapable of keeping any alive, so uhhhh... it's a very sad endeavor.
Room Ideas: idk idk idk
Anything Else: Because he's a communal minded hippie, Jeff probably brings food back to help stock the kitchen when he can. He can't cook worth a damn, but at least he can help Bonnie keep people fed???
(There's a good chance that a lot of what he brings back is either stolen or was given to him for some reason or another, because if he can get away with shoplifting or dumpster diving for, like, day old pastries, he will.)
